Club Volunteers

The club is always in need of volunteers.  Volunteers are an essential part of the club’s operations and the backbone of the club.  If you are interested in volunteering at any capacity please contact the club info@hcusoccer.ca

There are three main categories for volunteers (Click to go to full description):

1) Mini program

2) Youth program

3) Committee member

Mini Foundation Program

Halifax County United depends on the involvement of volunteers to help run our mini soccer programs. Volunteering with our club is a great way to get involved in our communities and to help promote healthy and active lifestyles for our children. And it is a rewarding and fun-filled experience for you.

At the mini program level (U6, U8, U10), we are looking for committed and energetic people who can promote a fun-filled, safe, and positive environment for our players and parents. Soccer experience is an asset but not necessary – our focus is on enjoyment of the game and providing a healthy recreational experience. Below are the volunteer opportunities for this summer season:

To inquire about any of these positions please contact the following person depending on the area you live in:

The club will be holding a training session for U6 parent assistants in May. Check the HCU website regularly for this information.

U8/U10 mini coach

Each of our community-based Foundation teams has a volunteer coaching team. As a U8/U10 coach, you provide important support to the club’s technical staff in running practice sessions and delivering our Foundation training program for your players. While technical staff are responsible for leading all practice sessions, they need help from volunteer coaches in running exercises and organizing the players during the sessions.

You will be responsible for coaching your team during league and tournament games. This involves organizing the players (e.g., substituting players on and off), ensuring equal time for all players, and promoting a safe and positive game environment.

The club will be holding a training session for U8/U10 coaches in May. Check the HCU website regularly for this information and also training opportunities offered through Soccer Nova Scotia.

U8/U10 team manager

Each of our Foundation teams needs a manager to help organize team activities and communications with parents and the club (e.g., setting up phone trees, preparing for mini tournaments). Team managers perform an invaluable role in making the season run smoothly for the coaches, players and parents.

There is no specific training for this position, although managers are encouraged to attend club mini coach training in May. Check the HCU website regularly for this information.

Youth Program

Halifax County United depends on the involvement of volunteers to help run our youth soccer programs. Volunteering with our club is a great way to get involved in our communities and to help promote healthy and active lifestyles for our children. And it is a rewarding and fun-filled experience for you.

At the youth program level (U12, U14, U16, U18), we are looking for the same qualities as for our mini program volunteers. However, with more levels of play available (Tier 2B, 2A, Tier 1), there are opportunities for coaches to build on their soccer experience and advance in their level of knowledge and practice. Below are the volunteer opportunities for this summer season:

All volunteers need to complete and submit a criminal record check to the club. You can do this through the local RCMP or HRM Police offices. The fee is $12 and will be reimbursed by the club.

The club will be holding training sessions for coaches there are also youth coach training opportunities through Soccer Nova Scotia. The club covers costs for this training. All those who indicate their interest on their child’s registration form will be contacted about training opportunities. Information will also be posted on the HCU website, so be sure to check it regularly.

Youth team coach

The club needs volunteer coaches at all levels of play in our youth program. Volunteer opportunities range from the recreational soccer environment of our U14-U18 Tier 2B /U12 B & Super 8 teams, to the more competitive settings of our U12-U18 Tier 2A and Tier 1 teams. Anyone interested in coaching a youth team needs to submit a coach’s application form to the club. This will ensure that we place you with a team most suited for you. Training sessions and information for coaches will be available in May and posted on the HCU website, so please check regularly.

Youth team manager

Team managers fulfil an important role in our club. They are responsible for team organization and communications with parents and the club. The club will provide an information session and package for team managers in May. Information will be posted on the HCU website, so please check it regularly.
