HCU Soccer Club Fall/Winter Program for 2009/10

 

HCU offers a full range of programs for Mini, Youth and Senior players, please click to jump to the individual program.  The table below lists the age groups that are used as the initial basis for assigning players to programs.   Throughout the fall and winter we offer programs for all age groups.  Different levels of programming are offered for each age group to ensure that we provide our players with the training and competition that is suited to their level of soccer development. All players enrolled in the U6, U8 and U10 groups are considered to be in the Mini program.  The Mini Program offers both introductory (Foundation Level) and advanced (Academy Level) training.  The Club’s technical staff delivers a standardized program with the assistance of volunteers. 

 

Foundation Level (runs October until the end of March, taking December off)

The Foundation level of the Mini Program introduces players to the skills they need to play soccer with confidence. Certified technical staff run all the practices and oversee games. The emphasis is on fun, friends and learning to love the game.

 

U6 Foundation (Born2004-2005)

Our youngest players participate in a one-hour fun-filled session, one day per week. The Club’s Technical staff provides instruction for the program.  Boys and girls are group separately depending on enrollment. 

 

U8 Foundation (Born 2002-2003)

The Foundation Level U8 program introduces players to the skills they need to play soccer with confidence.   The program will go once a week for an hour. Half of the session will be dedicated to skill development and the other have to scrimmaging.  They will have bi-weekly games also.


U10 Foundation (Born 2000-2001)

The Foundation Level of the U10 Program emphasises skill development and introduces the fundamentals of tactical play. The practices are designed to be fun and a great learning experience. The program will go once a week for an hour and a half plus a game bi-weekly.


Academy Level (runs October until the end of April, taking December off)

The Academy Level of the Mini Program is designed for committed U8 and U10 age players that display an above average aptitude for the game. Players must be assessed to determine if they are ready to participate at this level.  The fall winter program for the Academy goes from October to April, with a one month break in December.  The assessments for the Academy happen twice a year, once in mid-September and the other at the beginning of May.  The schedule for the 2007 fall Academy assessments is provided below. Note: All players interested in the Academy must attend assessments even if they were previously in the Academy Program.

 

U8 Academy (Born 2002-2003)

U8 players that are accepted for Academy level training will practice twice a week with our Senior Academy instructors.  Bi-weekly one of their training sessions will be used for a game. Approximately 15-20 players will be accepted into the boys and girls programs.

 

U10 Academy (Born 2000-2001)

U10 players that are accepted for Academy Level training will practice 1-2 times a week (total of 6 times per month) with our Academy instructors and play once a week. Approximately 30 boys and 30 girls will be accepted into the program.  Academy Level players will be assigned to either an advanced or an intermediate team. Advanced players will compete against advanced U10 Academy teams from other clubs and intermediate level players will compete against intermediate level U10 Academy teams from other Clubs, the teams will play approximately 16 games each.

 

Youth Program

Players born between 1992 and 1999 participate in our Youth program.

Tier 1 Level (U13, U14, U16 and U18)

Tier 1 soccer provides the highest level of competition and training offered by the Club. During the fall and winter Tier 1 teams play in the Nova Scotia Soccer League (NSSL). Typically Tier 1 players practice 1-2 a week and play once a week. Tryouts for Tier 1 teams will be held in mid-September (see tryout schedule below).  New this year we will be offering a U13 Tier 1 program.

 

Tier 2A Level (U14-U18)

Tier 2A for U14 to U18 is similar to Tier 1 and is intended for experienced committed players that are ready for relatively advanced training and competition. During the fall and winter teams practice once a week and play in the first Division of the Metro Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Tryouts for Tier 2A teams will be held in mid-September (see tryout schedule below)

 

Tier 2B Level (U14-U18)

The Tier 2B program for U14 to U18 players is designed for players that like to play soccer but are not ready or do not wish to play at the Tier 2A or Tier 1 level.  Improving the players’ skill and tactical play while having fun is the objective. Teams practice once a week and play games in the second division of the MISL.


U12 Tier 2A and 2B

U12 players that are selected will typically practice 1-2 times a week with our Academy instructors and/or their team coach.  The Tier2A team will compete in the first Division of the Metro Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and the Tier2B team in the second Division.

 

U12 Tier 2C

The Tier 2C program is designed for players that like to play soccer but are not ready or do not wish to play at the Tier 2A or 2B level.  Improving the players’ skill and tactical play while having fun is the objective. Teams practice once a week and play games in the third division of the MISL.



Senior Soccer

The club is proud to offer multiple levels at the senior level.


Premier League

These players play in the Nova Scotia Soccer League (NSSL), a province - wide league showcasing the highest level of soccer in the Province.

 

Senior B/C Soccer

These players are interested in a competitive environment and are dedicated players committed to attending games and practices regularly. It is however recognised that many of the players work or have families, which must, of course, take precedence.
